DIY Stain Remover.

before and after

See that stain on the left. Well… our floor is COVERED in those little spots. Sippy cups are not leak proof, and they are every where. Combine that with Craig walking through with his shoes on and you’ve got a juice/mud stain that really isn’t all that easy to get out.

A few weeks ago, I cleaned the carpet, like hands and knees scrubbed it two days in a row. It looked GREAT, but cost $30 for the cleaner and only lasted a few days with the kids. (Not to mention that $30 of cleaner barely covered our tiny living room). The other day a friend told me about vinegar and dish soap as a carpet cleaner, so I figured I’d try it. OMG. It worked better than any other carpet cleaner I’ve ever used.

    • 1 C hot water
    • 1/2 TBSP White Vinegar
    • 1/2 TBSP Clear Dishsoap.
    • Bowl and Washcloth

Combine the ingredients into a bowl. Dip a wash rag into it and blot the stain. That’s it… just blot it a few times and watch it disappear!
There is a slight vinegar smell.. but after an hour it wasn’t even noticeable.

Am I the only one that didn’t know about this magical concontion?? No way, how the heck is Resolve still in business?!

Happy cleaning.

  1. Ill have to try that out! I swear water stains our cheap apartment carpet! all from sippy cups! I also pinned another carpet cleaner(one involving an iron). but yours seems easier!

  2. i didnt know!!

i am in desperate need of a talk with you but im in a hurry!! i need your advice about somethin. if you get a minute go read this
ill call you as soon as im done with these appointments today....LOVE YOU

  3. Oh. Man. My carpet is covered in baby and toddler stains (don't worry, no poop... right now). How have I not heard of this until now?? Thank you!! I know how I'll be spending my Saturday morning :)

  4. Hello there! I knew that with the vinegar, but here in Spain we use a quemical product called Amoniaco, mixed with water, around 50-50, is better than vinegar, and is very cheap too!! The smell is bad, i buy one with floral smell but even so is a bit puagh, but the results worth it! Its incredible too with the fabrics you can't laundry.
    Good luck!

  5. Thanks for this tip. I'll definitely need to try it. After cleaning the grout, it had been looking dirty again after a couple of months. that is the problem with light colored grout i assume. i actually don't need to wash each grout line again, so I'll try employing a bit of bleach following time I mop..
