DIY Mothers Day Gift {under $20} | succulents in a watering can

So a few weeks ago I was at Target browsing their $1 section of goodies, at the front of the store, when I came across these super cute mini tin watering cans… for $2.50. WHAAAAA! They were mine. As soon as I laid eyes on them, I knew what I wanted to do, so after a few days of them just sitting, I made it to Lowes for some more goodies (flowers) for a pretty little piece to add to any garden or porch display.

Here’s what you need to get started:

  • Watering Can - Target $2.50
  • Soil
  • Flowers- $5-$10
  • Something to drill holes for drainage (I used a hammer and screwdriver)

I needed to create holes for drainage, I thought about using a drill bit, but the Lover was at work and I didn’t feel like dealing with all that. SO, I just took a screwdriver and a sledge hammer. (I wonder if he knows this. hah)

Make sure you place the can in the grass, that way the screwdriver goes into the soil and is easy to get out ;)

Then you will just fill with soil and add the flowers of your choosing. I’ve been wanting Succulents for forevaaaa… but you can add whatever flowers of your liking.

Wrap a piece of lace and maybe a handmade Burlap Bow with an awesome Mother’s Day cardto say thanks for everything she has done and will do.

VOILA! A homemade gift for under $20 (including card!).

I only grabbed two. I wish I would have grabbed more, because they are so freakin’ adorable. One is pictured, and the other has other random small flowers in it (I’ll add photo’s the the second tomorrow, I forgot to snap some)

  1. Oh I love this! If only my mother lived closer to me. Hm.. Mother's day gift to myself?

  2. Gah, when I read the word SLEDGEHAMMER I immediately started obnoxiously singing that Peter Gabriel song. Go ahead, YouTube it.. You know you want to. Now it'll be stuck in my head all day. But that's completely besides the point..

    This is a cute idea! :) :)

  3. That is SO CUTE! I know my mother would LOVE that!

  4. This is freakin' fabulous!! Great idea girl!
